Chicago Piano Duo
William Phemister, piano
Brian Lee, piano
he Chicago Piano Duo is a unique blend of two artists whose paths have crossed in various ways over the past twenty five years. According to the Chicago Tribune, they are “from different generations, but have shared musical values and shared spiritual values … and (they) both agree it’s fun!” The CPD performs a wide spectrum of music: classical music written for one piano/four-hands, works written for two pianos, and also sacred music that feature hymn arrangements, original compositions, or spiritual themes. Their concerts often synthesize several of these elements, although the programs can be presented in any form to the liking of the audiences/presenters, including a Schubert recital, Christmas programs, or other presentations.
They have performed in many noted series and venues across Chicago and beyond, including Fridays at Noon (Fourth Presbyterian Church), Moody Bible Institute, Wheaton College, John Brown University, Metropolitan Methodist Church (Washington D.C.), Gary United Methodist Church, St. Michaels Church, Wentz Concert Hall (Community Christian Church), North Shore Performing Arts Center, and at the annual Schubertiade, where their performance was heard live on WFMT radio/online. They have also collaborated with Dance West Ballet in live performances of Schubert. Upcoming projects include recording two volumes of hymn arrangements from Lorenz Publishing, which include a newly commissioned work by Mark Hayes written for the CPD.
